Village Pond October 2026
Amberley Parish Council engaged an approved contractor this
summer to maintain the village pond. The pond forms part of the Wildbrooks biological
Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Unfortunately with the change in
clerks at the beginning of the year, the maintenance support contract was unknowingly
held up which prevented the work from starting earlier than ideally wanted.
Work is already underway to remove the invasive Azolla weed infestation, which Russell Coates kindly brought to our attention at the Parish’s Assets and Amenities meeting on 9 July 2026. However, the prolonged dry weather in the summer and lack of rain has made weed removal difficult due to the lack of flow of the water preventing the Azolla weed from the clearing the pond. We are also awaiting the completion of Airey’s building works and for their contractors to repair the damage caused to the pond banks and making good the surrounding areas.
The parish council are amenable to engage with volunteers from the parish to assist with the restoration of the pond to its former glory. However, any work to be completed must done in conjunction with and under the guidance of our approved contractor. Anyone wishing to volunteer should provide their details to the Clerk at clerk@amberley-pc.org.uk.
